Nick O'Brien was Legal Director at the Disability Rights Commission, 2000–2007. From 2007 to 2020, he was an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Law and Social Justice at the University of Liverpool. He is currently a part-time tribunal judge in the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber of HM Courts and Tribunals Service.
