About this event

Join acclaimed author and past winner of the Orwell Prize for Journalism, Polly Toynbee, as she discusses her latest book An Uneasy Inheritance: My Family and Other Radicals. In it, she explores how, while for generations her ancestors have been committed left-wingers railing against injustice, they chose not to join the working class but rather to enjoy a life of academia or journalism. So how does a Guardian columnist who gets to choose to live temporarily on the minimum wage, in order to explore life in low-pay Britain, cope with the guilt of privilege? Polly will be in conversation with Ben Jackson, Co-Editor of The Political Quarterly and Professor of Modern History at University College, Oxford, as they discuss how best to hold an honest conversation about class in Britain.

This event is sponsored by The Political Quarterly.
